“I’ve been training hard and the weather has been good” he says.

Some fight fans were surprised to see Cameron accept a fight at 11 stone six pounds, having campaigned at super middle but he says: “The weight is going really well.”

His trainer Chris Smedley has no concerns he can squeeze down.

“We are not worried about Liam, with the help of his new dietician he’ll make the weight easily” Smedley said.

“With weeks to go he is in better nick now than he’s ever been. I’ve been trying to get him down to middleweight for ages, he’ll be massive, the biggest you can imagine at that weight and I’m sure he can keep his strength.”

Smedley continued: “Sam is a bit unorthodox and that will suit Liam as almost everybody in our gym is that - except Liam, so he’s had plenty of practice. The future can be great for Liam.

“Look at the top domestic middleweights in Billy Joe Saunders, who can let himself go, Tommy Langford, who he beat in the amateurs and Brian Rose who he did well against in sparring. They’d all be very winnable fights. People will recognise that when they see the size of him.”

Smedley says Cameron’s “attitude” has changed since his fight in Australia, with Zac Dunn. “He wants to make his fights early nights. If you look at Sam’s last fight (African Abolaji Rasheed) his opponent came in 9lbs lighter and didn’t have a brilliant record. Having said that he was sanctioned by the Board and proved a tough cookie and we had to wait for the last three rounds to see Sam at his best.”

The trainer added: “Sam is a good boxer everybody thought he’d beaten Nav Mansouri, other than the scorecards.

“He trains with a great set of people and we get on with them all, but on the night, ofcourse, all we will want to do is win, as they will want to.

“But Liam is well-schooled, bigger and stronger. And he will show that on the night.”

Cameron said he will delay sparring until his return to England.
