The next phase of development has begun at Chesterfield’s Staveley Basin.

Work has now started to build wing walls to support its lock bridge, with Derbyshire Council putting £89,000 towards the scheme and Chesterfield Canal Trust contributing £76,000 in funds and volunteer time.

The project is part of work to restore Chesterfield Canal and make more of the waterway navigable.

It is hoped the scheme will boost tourism and increase the number of boat users in the area.
