Can Doncaster & District Guide Dogs count on you?

A well-established group of fundraisers are searching for volunteers to help them raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Guide Dogs Doncaster, Hatfield & Throne branch plan and organise a range of fundraising activities including supermarket collections, craft fairs, coffee mornings and take part supporting local schools, youth groups and companies in our Name a Puppy scheme.

The group, who have been set up now for several years, are seeking for volunteers who would be able to help and assist with the planning, organising and delivery of events. This can range from sparing a few hours on an ad hoc basis to help at the event or being more hands on by attending branch meetings and devising fundraising activities.

If you are the outgoing and sporty type, we also have opportunities to take part in challenge events on behalf of the group or alternatively becoming a collection box coordinator.

The role of collection box coordinator can fit around the lifestyle and schedule of the volunteer. They place collection boxes in suitable locations and empty them every two-three months, banking the income or passing the funds on to the branch treasurer.

David Clough, Guide Dogs volunteering consultant, said: “Guide Dogs relies on volunteers who give their time for so many things. From the volunteers who spend much of their time caring for dogs, guiding people who are blind or partially sighted, driving or raising funds, to those who come out occasionally to hold a tin or cheer on marathon runners, volunteers are closely involved in almost every area of activity.”
