Call for parking charge rethink

CALLS have been made for a rethink of plans to increase residents’ parking permit fees in Sheffield.

Opposition Lib Dem councillors are proposing a motion at next Wednesday’s full council meeting calling on ruling Labour councillors to reconsider their plans.

Parking permit fees are doubling for both a household’s first car, from £10 to £20, and a second car, from £30 to £60. Fees are also doubling for carers to park outside the home of those they care for and the price of a book of visitor permits will increase.

Coun Paul Scriven, Lib Dem councillor for Broomhill, said: “We have set out a plan to reverse these cuts by reducing the pay of senior managers. Labour councillors should stop protecting fat cat salaries and reverse these damaging plans.”
