steelworkers who produced a charity calendar in memory of a teenage sportsman have raised more than £7,000.
The C. Roberts Steels Calendar Boys posed for the nude calendar in memory of Alexander Albiston, who died after battling a rare bone cancer – C. Roberts worker Peter Jackson is family friend.
The 18-year-old, from Wickersley, was a goalkeeper with Sheffield Wednesday’s academy and a keen cricketer.
He juggled chemotherapy and surgery to sit his A-levels in hospital, earning five A grades and a place to study Russian and Spanish at Cambridge University.
However, he died on the day he was due to start his degree.
The group from C. Roberts Steel Services, Eastwood, Rotherham, donated £7,260 – £5,700 from calendar sales and £1,500 from HSBC – to the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Alexander’s dad Tim said: “Our family is humbled by the generosity of everyone who purchased a calendar.”
