Cadets will race around course in jockey's silks

THE St Leger may have returned to Doncaster racecourse but this week will see an altogether more unusual race at the Town Moor track.

On Wednesday October 3, a team of Army Cadets from Rossington Detachment, Doncaster will take up the St Dunstan's Cadet Challenge.

Cadets from all over the country will compete with the Rossington 'riders' in the "Go The Distance For St Dunstan's" completing a 13.1 mile team activity of their choice.

The Rossington team will be racing around the recently refurbished Doncaster racecourse, dressed in silks and sporting individual hobby horses, the Cadets will split into groups to compete in separate races to reach their target.

The Cadet Challenge helps create awareness for St Dunstan's, the national charity providing lifelong support and re-habilitation to blind ex-Service men and women - as well as contributing to the personal development of cadets, who are aged from 12 to 18.

Paul Bowers, Detachment Commander, said: 'It will be a really fun day for everyone."
