Cadets flying high at 75th anniversary
Around 750 high-flying youngsters paraded proudly through Doncaster town centre to mark the 75th anniversary of the Air Training Corps.
Cadets from across South and West Yorkshire celebrated the milestone occasion with the spectacular parade and church service yesterday.
The 750 cadets were joined by volunteers, VIPs and civic dignitaries at the Mansion House making up a procession of around 1,000 people.
The march was followed by a service of celebration at Doncaster Minster and a reception at Scarborough Barracks TA Centre.
Mayors and dignitaries from Doncaster, Bradford, Sheffield, Kirklees, Calderdale, Rotherham, Wakefield and Barnsley were also in attendance.
Squadron Leader Steven Lindsay said: “It was a fantastic event.
“Around 1,000 took part in the parade and to see them all marching through the town centre was quite something to behold. “To see everyone come together showed a real sense of community.
“Young people get a rough deal and are rarely shown in the public eye doing something positive.
“This really showcased the young people that put so much of their time and energy into doing something positive that provides them with lots of opportunities, expands their horizons and allows them to see a lot of what’s going on in the world.”
