Caborn's new role with world's oldest club

FORMER Sports Minister and Sheffield MP Richard Caborn was today named as the new honorary vice-president of Sheffield FC.

He will take up his new role at the world's first football club with immediate effect. It will be one of his first appointments outside politics after he announced his retirement as a MP last month.

Caborn has a new role as Ambassador for England's World Cup bid in 2018 by Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

He plans to use Sheffield FC's position as the world's oldest club and England as the home of football to bring the World Cup back for the first time since 1966.

One of his first chances to talk to FIFA President Sepp Blatter about the bid will be at Sheffield FC's 150th anniversary dinner on October 24.

Sheffield FC chairman Richard Tims said: "We are delighted that Richard has agreed to become honorary vice-president of our famous club. He has been a great supporter of Sheffield FC for many years now, providing his backing to many of our community-led projects such as Boots for Africa."
