A BUTCHER is advocating a meat-free Lent.

Dr Jackie Butcher, world development adviser to the Anglican church’s Diocese of Sheffield, said ‘a vegetarian diet is a more efficient way of feeding the world’ as she challenged people to give up meat for six weeks.

Speaking ahead of Lent, which started yesterday, she said: “Meat production is associated with carbon pollution, produces more methane, requires more water and leads to rainforest clearance.”
