A BUSINESS which came to the aid of flood-hit families in South Yorkshire has been recognised with a national award.

The Sheffield branch of Rainbow International, a disaster restoration specialist, was called into action following flash flooding which swept the area in the summer months.

The firm deployed a 15-strong team to help businesses and householders across the county and in parts of the north east of England.

Bosses of the franchise have recognised the efforts of Wayne Simpson, who set up the Darnall branch 12 years ago, with a special award.

As more than a month’s rainfall fell in just a few hours during thunder storms, and rivers reached record levels, hundreds of families became homeless as their houses were flooded. Wayne sent out teams of technicians to safeguard furniture and possessions for families in the affected areas and to start the recovery and restoration process.

Wayne has been named Franchisee of the Month, beating off stiff competition from 80 other branches in the UK.

He said: “While an important part of our service is helping the victims of fire and floods, we have invested heavily in the latest technology to enable us to carry out full exterior cleans of buildings including the windows.”

Phil Else, managing director of Rainbow International, said: “When a fire or flood hits a property the effects can be devastating but Wayne and his team have the expertise and resources to turn round the situation and restore properties and their contents to pristine condition.”
