Business boss to be next Master Cutler

THE chief executive of one of Rotherham's most successful companies is to be the next Master Cutler.

Gordon Bridge has spent his working life in local manufacturing industries ranging from cutlery to high tech industrial seals.

He is now chief executive of AES Engineering, the Bradmarsh Business Park company which holds more Queen’s Awards than any other business in Yorkshire and is Rotherham’s second most profitable company after bus company First.

Mr Bridge was educated at King Edward VII School in Sheffield and became an articled clerk at Sheffield accountants Wells Richardson & Co.

He left the accountancy profession on the day his articles finished and will celebrate 40 years in manufacturing industry during his term as Master Cutler.

After working at the Tempered Group, the Sheffield-based spring and machine knife manufacturer, he joined kitchen knife manufacturer Richardson Sheffield, and helped the company achieve world wide sales successes with its Laser range of knives, famed for never needing sharpening.

He joined AES in 1995 and has played a key part in its international successes.

Mr Bridge will be installed as Master Cutler in October and will serve for a year.
