A local appeal to raise funds for a new children's cancer centre has received a huge boost - thanks to First buses.

The transport company is displaying a series of posters on their buses across the region, asking passengers to text just £1 during their journey, via their phone or tablet, to help the cause.

Launched by Sheffield Parents’ Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia - PACT - the appeal hopes to raise £670,000 in the next two years towards creating a new children’s centre for the oncology and haematology outpatients department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The clinic will include a new treatment suite and an improved waiting area for families and it is hoped it can be completed by 2017.

PACT Trustee Jane Mitchell said: “The posters were launched just before Christmas, and are displayed just behind the driver’s cab of buses throughout the region. It’s such an easy thing to do and, if everyone in the region took the time to donate, we’d hit our £670,000 target in no time,

“We’re asking the people of Sheffield to keep an eye out for these posters and spare £1 for this worthy cause.”
