A Star reader contacted us to report that he was on the bus when the window was smashed as it travelled down Montgomery Road, Nether Edge, at 7.45pm on Thursday, May 12.

He said: “All of a sudden there was a loud noise and the glass shattered in one of the windows. There was a small hole in the second panel which looked like a bullet hole.

“We couldn’t see a bullet casing but there was no rock or brick either and I don’t think a stone could do that damage. It seemed like a shooting, although I don’t know if it was a proper gun or an air gun or something similar.”

The Star has now received confirmation that a bus running on route number 3 was damaged in an incident last night, although whether it was indeed a shooting is unclear.

A spokesman for First Bus said: “We have reports of window damage last night on a service 3 heading towards Meadowhall at about 7.45pm at Montgomery Road, Netheredge but at the moment we don’t have any information as to what struck the window.

“Because the bus windows have double glazing only the outer window was broken and thankfully no-one was injured.

“The incident has been reported to the Police.”
