Three bus shelters were smashed by vandals in a wrecking spree in a Sheffield suburb.

South Yorkshire Police said the shelters were smashed in Woodhouse last night.

There have also been reports of shelters smashed in Handsworth and Beighton.

Inspector Jason Booth, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "It's a shame some people in Woodhouse think it's fun to smash bus shelters. Generally they are here to make waiting for a bus a little easier, and drier."

A clean-up operation was mounted this morning once the vandalism was discovered.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
