Two Sheffield bus drivers will go head to head today in a bid to be crowned the UK’s bus driver of the year.
Andrew Hardy and Kevin Machin, both First drivers, will be competing for the accolade in Blackpool against about 120 other drivers.
The awards test drivers on their practical driving skills and customer care and include a 30-question theory test.
Mr Hardy is the ‘local favourite’, having been runner-up in the awards last year.
Ben Gilligan, Managing Director for First in South Yorkshire, said: “We hold a series of internal heats before deciding who to send to the Bus Driver of the Year awards.
“This year we’re sending Andrew and Kevin and we have high hopes for them.
“Competing in the competition is no mean feat. The standards expected are incredibly high but our team has what it takes and we’re fully behind them in their quest to come home with the silverware and the titles they deserve.”
