Bury power line campaign plea

Have your say

COUNTRYSIDE enthusiasts are calling for towering pylons along a Peak District valley to be removed and the cables buried instead.

National Grid is consulting on the future of the high voltage line in Longdendale Valley west of the Woodhead Tunnel and Friends of the Peak District wants people to lobby for them to be put underground.

“These giant industrial structures just don’t belong in wild places,” said Anne Robinson, from the charity.

The power line runs for around 11 miles through the valley and across the moors with 160ft pylons.

The Peak District National Park Authority is deciding on its policy before consultation.
