Essential work begins next Monday to replace 1,600 metres of water pipes in Sheffield’s Mayfield Valley.

The project, around Brownhills Lane, will remove pipes that are prone to bursting and will help prevent leakage.

Once this is completed repairs will continue along Gorse Lane and Douse Croft Lane.

The work will be carried out by contractors Balfour Beatty, and will last approximately two months, with sections of the roads dug up with short trenches in some places.

The water pipe being replaced has burst on 25 previous occasions.

From Monday Brown Hills Lane will be closed between the junctions of Roper Hill and Gorse Lane, followed by Gorse Lane Road between the junctions of Brown Hills Lane and Mayfield Road.
