The incident happened on Friday night on Hunshelf Road in Chapeltown.

Rachel Higgins said hundreds of pounds worth of Christmas presents that were in the loft ready for her two children, aged eight and 11, were taken by the thieves.

She said the family have only recently purchased the house and were not in when the criminals struck on Friday night.

Among the items taken were Adidas clothing, an Xbox controller and headphones.

She said because they have only recently moved in, the family do not have contents insurance to cover the cost of the loss.

Rachel said the people involved appeared to have got in through the back doors and had taken a drill from the property, along with the Christmas presents they stole.

“They have come in overnight, gone into the loft and taken Christmas presents,” she said.

“They are just evil.”

Rachel said she hoped the people involved could be traced before they steal from anyone else’s house.
