Burglar steals boiler from house in Sheffield

Another boiler has been stolen from a house in Sheffield, with hundreds stolen from council houses over recent years.

Figures released by Sheffield Council in 2013 revealed that more than 200 council houses in the city were targeted by boiler thieves that year - costing council chiefs £287,000 to replace the heating and water systems, where are believed to have been sold for scrap.

The latest theft was from a property in Gaunt Road, Gleadless Valley.

Officers in Sheffield are also investigating burglaries in Athol Road, Woodseats; Lingfoot Walk, Jordanthorpe; Grindlow Drive, Gleadless Valley; Ecclesall Road, Ecclesall; Warminster Road, Norton.

There were also two houses broken into in Queen Victoria Road, Totley.

An open window allowed a burglar to gain entry to a house in White Lane, Basegreen and another burglar tried to force a window to get into a property in Hardcastle Gardens, Woodhouse, but sensors detected the intruder and alerted residents.

A number of garages have also been broken into across Sheffield, with thefts reported in Everard Avenue, Bradway; Devonshire Road, Dore; Chessel Close, and Hollythorpe Crescent, both in Norton Lees.

Power tools were stolen from a garage in Eastern Drive, Arbourthorne, at around 7am today.

Officers want to hear from anyone offered stolen goods.
