A burglar who raided a newly-built house has been jailed for a year.

James Jones, aged 33, of Colley Crescent, Kendray, Barnsley, admitted stealing kitchen doors, drawers and handles worth £87 from the property on Windmill Close in Barnsley last month. He also asked for five other offences to be taken into consideration – thefts from two shops in Barnsley town centre, handling stolen property from a burglary at Worsbrough, and theft of tools from two building sites.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Much of the property has since been recovered by officers.”
