'Bullied' teenager took knife to school

A DONCASTER teenager took a knife to school to threaten another boy after lessons, a court heard.

Doncaster Youth Court heard the 14-year-old Balby boy claimed he took the blade to school because he was being bullied. The youth and his school cannot be named for legal reasons.

Prosecutor Brendan Glynn said the boy’s mother tipped off the school that she believed he had left home with a knife.

When he arrived, reception staff sent him to see the headteacher and he handed over the weapon without protest when challenged.

“He did not adopt an aggressive manner,” said Mr Glynn.

Asked why he had taken it to school, the youth replied: “I took it to threaten a lad who has been bullying me after school. I was never going to use it at school.”

The boy pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed weapon on school premises. The magistrates adjourned his case for two weeks to await a pre-sentence report which will investigate the bullying allegations.
