BT STAFF who volunteer in their spare time have been awarded grants of up to £500 to donate to the organisations they help.

The BT People Awards is an employee recognition scheme launched to acknowledge volunteers who give up their free time to help their local communities.

Among those to have benefitted in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire are Wortley Rugby Club in Sheffield, the Lewis Jeynes Fund in Doncaster, and 37th Wakefield Brownies, Barnsley.

Tom Keeney, BT’s Yorkshire and Humber regional director, said: “The People Awards really highlight the time and commitment that BT people are giving to their communities and provide a great opportunity to reward their community group or charity for their volunteering.”

Joe McDavid, BT’s Volunteering Sponsor, said: “It’s great to see so many BT people using their professional skills to help others.”
