Brush with Girls Brigade a happy experience

GIVE us a smile, Sam!

Clowning around with face paint was all in a day’s work for members of the Girls’ Brigade in Doncaster.

The girls hit the streets to stage an open day to attract new members - and showed 21st century brigading is about more than sewing badges and signing hymns.

The group gave demonstrations of craft activities - and painted smiles on the faces of passing youngsters - at Priory Place Methodist Church.

“We’re looking to get new members to join,” said Brigade leader Lydia Beesley.

“The Brigade is moving in a totally different direction these days. Our original Christian ethos remains intact, but we’re also introducing more sporting and craft activities to the programme.

“The girls who are already members thoroughly enjoy the Girls’ Brigade, and I’d like to encourage others to join - it’s a great way to make new friends and learn new things.”
