Brothers' cycle ride raised £1,000 for ambulance

TWO brothers from Barnsley raised more than £1,000 towards an appeal to buy a new children's ambulance when they cycled 80km from Manchester to Wakefield.

Daniel Laws, aged 30, from Mapplewell, and Peter Laws, 29, from Darfield, raised the money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s Bear 2 appeal.

The appeal - backed by The Star - will provide an ambulance for the safe emergency transportation of children requiring specialist intensive care.

Daniel said: “The hospital does a wonderful job caring for young patients across the region.”

Also backing the appeal are Helen Garner from Barnsley, Tracy Elstub from Doncaster and Donna Thompson from Eckington.

They take part in the Great North Run half marathon this weekend.

They are raising cash because Tracy’s daughter Elizabeth, 17, has been treated at the hospital for six years for a disease affecting the bones in her legs.
