RESIDENTS of Broomhall are invited to hear stories from some of the area’s most interesting characters at a film screening this week.

Broomhall Stories features interviews with eight residents and will be screened at the Sheffield Jesus Centre on Broomspring Lane this Friday.

The 30-minute film was created by Broomhall resident Chris Richardson, who spoke with an 88-year old former soldier about his experiences in Italy in the Second World War and a 75-year-old Jamaican lady about her move to Sheffield in the 60s, among others.

He said: “Older people living in the area have amazing stories that I didn’t want to be lost.”

The film project was funded by a £1,500 grant from Guinness Northern Counties. Chris, who has lived in the area for six years, condensed 24 hours worth of footage into one half-hour film, though he plans to archive the rest.

The eight residents will all attend the event, from 7pm to 9pm, and guests will have the opportunity to meet them after the screening.

Entry is free and there is no need to book.
