A SHEFFIELD University engineering graduate has won the South Yorkshire Graduate Intern of the Year 2011 award for the positive impact he made during his placement.

Joel Assamoi, aged 22, who graduated in 2010, has completed a three-month internship with Sheffield-based engineering consultancy Tribosonics.

The internship was just one of 90 graduate internships coordinated by the careers service at the university.

Of the 500 interns across the Yorkshire region, 11 made it through to the finals of the Yorkshire Internship Awards, which took place in Leeds.

Joel originally joined Tribosonics on a three-month graduate internship and the company were so impressed he was offered a job.

He is the third graduate intern that Tribosonics have employed.
