VOTERS in Doncaster are to decide if they want to elect another mayor.
Doncaster Council has voted in favour of a second referendum on the subject, despite a robust defence of the system by the current mayor.
English Democrat Peter Davies said the Labour Party would be the only ones to gain from having another referendum in May and he believed it would put the town’s recovery at risk.
But a motion to hold the referendum to see if the electorate wants to change Doncaster’s governance to the old leader and cabinet system was passed by 45 votes to just five against.
