The Boeing 777 Pakistan International Airlines flight "squawked" an emergency code as it flew over the North Sea off the coast of Eastern Scotland.

The 329-seater aircraft turned sharply south off the coast of Scotland near Peterhead before dropping in altitude as it flew over Newcastle.

It is not clear where the aircraft is headed to make its landing as the airliner has passed both Newcastle and Leeds Bradford airports but now appears to be en route to Manchester.
