A man has suffered serious injuries after falling from a tram bridge in Sheffield city centre.

Emergency services were called to Park Square roundabout close to Ponds Forge at around 5.45pm this evening.

A Yorkshire Ambulance spokesman said the man suffered serious injuries.

An air ambulance was called to the scene but was stood down shortly after as paramedics attended to the injured man.

An eyewitness told The Star she saw three people trying desperately to pull back the man from the bridge.

Sharni Smith, 26, of Dronfield said: "I was heading home from work and I saw all this commotion from the tram bridge. I got closer and saw three people holding the man - he was half over the railings and he just fell to the road below. I just hope he's okay."
