BREAKING: Man dies after being shot on Sheffield street

A man has died after being shot in the chest on a Sheffield street this afternoon.

A 23-year-old was rushed to Northern General Hospital following a shooting outside a house on Daniel Hill Terrace at around 1.35pm.

Police said he had died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The man's grieving relatives could be heard sobbing as they returned to the scene of the shooting shortly after his death.

It is believed he was shot outside the house where he had been attending a family celebration that afternoon.

This was the second shooting in the city in the last week. A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another young man was shot in the chest in Shiregreen on Monday night.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "A 23-year-old man has died following a reported shooting on Daniel Hill, Walkley, Sheffield, this afternoon (Saturday 18 February).

"At around 1.35pm police were called to Daniel Hill following reports that a man had been shot.

"The 23-year-old man was taken to Northern General Hospital with a suspected gunshot wound. He died a short time later.

"Police are currently investigating the incident and anyone who was in the area at the time, or has information about the incident is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 571 of 18 February."
