Cameron Spalding, 25, was shot in his chest by one of two men who were seen opening fire by a horrified resident.

The man, who does not want to be named, said he heard a gunshot, looked out of his window and saw two men with a gun.

He said the gun was fired twice more before the culprits ran off and jumped into a car parked nearby.

Residents in the street dialled 999 and waited with Mr Spalding until police and medics arrived.

They said he was slumped on the ground close to the home he shares with his partner.

He remains in hospital this morning.

Police sealed off most of the street while officers carried out house-to-house enquiries and forensic experts examined the crime scene yesterday.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
