A SERIOUS smash has closed the southbound stretch of the M1 between Chesterfield and Alfreton this morning after a car careered off the road and ploughed into trees.
The BMW left the road, near Junction 28 at Alfreton, at around 4.45am and crashed into trees near to the slip road.
Two men in the car were injured, one seriously.
They have both been taken to Kingsmill Hospital, Nottinghamshire.
Derbyshire Police said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is underway.
The road will re-open once repairs to safety barriers are complete.
The northbound section of the Tinsley Viaduct in Sheffield is also closed this morning because of an overturned car.
Highways officers are dealing with the incident.
