A LORRY burst into flames after it crashed off the M1 motorway, closing the busy road northbound for several hours.
The lorry driver was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries after the vehicle veered off the carriageway between junction 36 and 37, near Barnsley.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said he had swerved to avoid some traffic cones and clipped another lorry before crashing off the road.
Around 15 firefighters battled the blaze after the lorry rolled down an embankment just after 10am yesterday.
The northbound carriageway of the motorway was closed for two hours while crews from Tankersley, Barnsley and Dearne stations got the fire under control.
One northbound lane was still closed yesterday afternoon, before crews were dispatched to retrieve the burned-out lorry in the evening.
