BREAKING: Gun fired on Sheffield estate as police close off surrounding roads

Reports that a gun was fired on a Sheffield estate in broad daylight has sparked a police investigation.

Officers were called to Nodder Road in Woodthorpe after a member of the public reported that a firearm had been discharged near the Premier store this afternoon.

No one is thought to have been hurt in the incident as police continue to carry out enquiries.

As of 5.45pm this evening, officers have closed Chadwick Road both directions between the Halistair Road South junction and the Woodgrove Avenue junction. Police are diverting traffic to alternative routes.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A report was received at around 2.20pm this afternoon that a firearm had been discharged close to the Premier store on Nodder Road in the Woodthorpe area of Sheffield.

“An investigation is underway and officers are currently at the scene. There are not believed to be any injuries sustained by anyone.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 558 of 15 March 2016.”
