Breaking: Armed robbery at Sheffield post office

Armed robbers brandishing a knife and a gun struck at a Sheffield post office in broad daylight.

The raid took place at Parkhead Post Office on Ecclesall Road South at 9.40am yesterday morning.

Police said two men, who were wearing motorcycle helmets and dark clothing, threatened staff before making their getaway on a motorbike with cash.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Witnesses report seeing the men with a large knife, and what is believed to be a small handgun.

“The men were wearing black or dark coloured motorcycle clothing, and were wearing socks over their shoes.

“The men left the scene on a black motorcycle, travelling down Ecclesall Road towards the city centre before turning right onto Dobcroft Road, Millhouses.”

Nobody was injured during the robbery.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Luke Kiely, who is leading the investigation, said: “This robbery happened at a peak time on a busy road, and we would like to speak with anyone who may have seen the motorbike or the suspects.

“We’ve carried out detailed checks at the scene, and will continue our enquiries to trace the two men.”
