BREAKING: Armed police arrest man with air pistol in Sheffield city centre

Armed police rushed to the scene at 3pm today and handcuffed a 20-year-old man who had an air pistol and a quantity of drugs concealed on his person.

The Sheffield Central Local Policing Team revealed details about the incident on Twitter.

They said: "Armed officers attended the location within minutes in response to information that the male had been seen with a weapon and quickly detained him in the immediate vicinity. Members of the public may have seen a sudden increase in police activity at the time of the incident. "Officers would like to stress that at no point during the incident was there any threat to public safety and it is being treated as an isolated event."

Police did not state exactly where in the city centre the incident took place.
