Around 40 homes have been evacuated in Barnsley with two roads closed as firefighters deal with a fire involving a gas cylinder.

The fire started in a domestic garage on Nancy Road, Grimethorpe at about 1.30pm this afternoon.

Two fire engines are currently on the scene, using hose reels to cool the gas cylinder and make the area safe.

Nancy Road and Cross Street are closed as a precaution.

Officers will use thermal imaging cameras to assess the safety of the cylinder, before removing a safety cordon which has been put in place.
