BREAKING: 166 pupils off sick in major outbreak at Sheffield primary school

A sickness bug sweeping a Sheffield primary school has hit 166 pupils and three teachers.

A vomiting bug, which parents fear is the winter norovirus, has spread among pupils and staff at Intake Primary School, Intake, over recent days.

Today, the school register reveals that 166 of the school's 407 pupils are off sick.

Three of the school's 59 teaching staff are also ill.

A school spokeswoman said the strain of the bug had not yet been confirmed, but the authorities have been informed.

"We have taken advice from environmental health and public health," she said.

"People are saying it's the norovirus but there is no confirmed diagnosis yet."
