Brave Imogen makes the cut

A Year 4 pupil from Sheffield has donated her hair to Little Princess Trust, to help create wigs for children with cancer.

Eight-year-old Imogen Ross opted for a short bob after going under the scissors for the first time in five years to support children who have lost their own hair as a result of their cancer treatment.

And staff and students at her school, Ecclesall Church of England Junior School on Ringinglow Road, helped her raise over £1000 in sponsorship for her brave act - enough money to create three wigs.

Imogen said: “I’m very lucky to have very long hair. I really love having long hair but I’m happy to cut it for this the great cause.

“I’m cutting my hair for Little Princess Trust because then another girl can have my hair and be happy!”

The school has now pledged to help Imogen raise the funds for at least one more wig, bringing the total to four. They began their efforts by holding a ‘crazy hair day’ where they encouraged their 360 pupils to come to school for the day with wild and wacky hair styles and pay for the privilege.

Head of School, Guy Willatt commented; “We were overwhelmed by the bravery of Imogen and her determination to make a difference and when we were approached by the family we considered the best way of helping out.

“The idea of a ‘Crazy Hair Day’ was the most relevant and fun idea that came up and, from that point, we went for it.

“The children and staff have really got behind Imogen and the charity and we really hope that it will encourage the children to consider others in their daily lives.”
