A teddy bear and flowers have left at the roadside where a four-year-old boy was killed in a crash.

The youngster suffered fatal injuries in a crash between a car and a lorry in Mexborough.

The boy, from Doncaster, was in a white Mazda MX-5 travelling from Mexborough towards High Melton when it collided with an Iveco-Ford lorry on Melton Mill Lane at around 11.35am on Monday, December 23.

The 51-year-old driver of the car suffered slight injuries and the 49-year-old lorry driver, both from Doncaster, escaped injury.

Police, paramedics and the fire service were called to the accident scene.

Doncaster Council highways staff and police closed the road at the entrance to Pastures Lodge, Doncaster Road at Melton Mill Lane and Cadeby Road at its junction with Cadeby Lane. The road re-opened just after 3pm.

Meanwhile, A 47-year-old pedestrian is in hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a double-decker bus in Barnsley.

The accident happened near the junction of Burleigh Street on the A61 Sheffield Road at around 6.30pm on Monday, December 23.
