Boxing: Why Carl Frampton will beat Scott Quigg

In a Star poll, we asked 15 fight enthusiasts and only three plumped for the Englishman to take the Northern Irishman’s IBF world title.

Here are their views:

Kell Brook: “It’s a tough one to call but I’m slightly leaning towards Frampton, I just think he’s got the better boxing brain; I see a mid to late stoppage win for the Irish fella. But I love how dedicated Quigg is to his craft. He and Frampton are both a credit to the game!”

Dennis Hobson: “Frampton will be too much for Quigg in just about every department. It will be a cracking fight but I think Frampton has developed a bit more and has a bit more polish and class. It should be a great fight but Frampton will have the answers. It will go to points but there will be some drama too. It won’t be the end of the world for Quigg either, there are some great fights out there for him and he’s never in a dull match.”

Junior Witter: “I’m going for a Frampton knockout; he’s a good boxer and got the power and seems naturally bigger. Both can be hurt but Quiqq is technically better. But I don’t think he’ll handle the pressure and get caught; a great fight.”

Adam Etches: “Frampton wins but Kid Galahad beats them both in the same night!”

Nicolie Campbell: “Easy night’s work for Frampton; he’s got more in his arsenal.”

Liam Cameron: “I would have said Quigg but on recent performances I have gone for Frampton; it will be a back and forth fight but Frampton’s the winner.”

Lewis Taylor: “I think Frampton will nick it, he has always been the favourite but I think Quigg has come on well...it will be a great fight!”

Ross Burkinshaw: “Frampton will win, he’s got a great boxing brain on him and I believe it will be a stoppage or knockout around round nine.”

John Fewkes: “It’s a real 50/50 fight, but I think I’m just edging towards Frampton. I think it might come down to who’s got that’s little bit more class and I think that’s Frampton.”

Lee Connelly: “What a brilliant fight for Britain; I think Frampton will win, Quigg undoubtedly has the power to hurt Frampton but I think the Jackal is a more well rounded complete fighter and with the right game plan will do a job on Quigg.

Sam O’maison: “I can see it being a high pace fight with the first few rounds both fighters been very cagey but then when the fight gets going we could see a stoppage or KO happening for Frampton. I know Kid Galahad is feisty for Frampton’s blood too. So could be a potential match between those two in the future.”

Atif Shafiq: Frampton is the more complete boxer. He can adjust in a fight which could be the key to victory so I’m picking Frampton.

Jerome Wilson: Frampton on points. Frampton is a decent mover and good technical boxer with good punch variation, throwing them from many angles. Quigg, wears his heart on his sleeve, has the heart of a lion, and does what’s necessary to get the win.

“My mind says Frampton to win inside the distance, as I think Quigg will be very eager to be dominant early on in the fight, leaving himself open to be countered and take heavy shots flush on the head and body. I admire both fighters’ style of fighting.

“Frampton is more of a boxer with a good brain, style and movement, using the shots he fires to good effect. Quigg’s more of a warrior who likes to get stuck in and let his heavy shots go, going for the quick finish and to cause as much damage as possible.

“If Quigg fights in is usual style of fighting, and it’s not effective, Frampton will outbox him. If the fight goes toe to toe, Quigg takes it for me, with his relentless shots to the head and body, not giving Frampton time to use his brain and boxing ability thus taking him out of his comfort zone, not allowing him to dictate the pace of the fight, and wins within 12 rounds.”

Glyn Rhodes: “Great fight: I’m going for Quigg, I think he’s the better all round fighter and Frampton didn’t look so great in his last fight.”

Paul Silky Jones: “I think it looks like a 50/50 fight but having said that Frampton has his work cut out on the Matchroom promoted show, Quigg points or a knockout win.”

Sam Sheedy: “It’s going to be Quigg. He’s so fit, strong. And huge at the weight, he reminds me a lot of myself. But he lacks my charisma and charm!”
