Boxing: West Brom fan Langford vows to '˜take Sam Sheedy apart'

The Birmingham-based middleweight was originally due to meet Chris Eubank Jr to battle for the British title.

Eubank pulled out and that has left to a change of emphasis in Langford’s planning for the November 26 fight at Cardiff.

The West Bromwich Albion fan, writing in the club’s programme, said: “Speedy is a good, awkward opponent who will bring his best.

“It’s a completely different fight for me [compared to Eubank] and therefore different tactics.

“My team and I have to change training dramatically and the sparring partners we had scheduled.

“I’ve also got to alter my mindset. I have got to be patient and look to break my opponent down and eventually he will have to come for me as the rounds go on and then I’ll take him apart.”

Langford thanked WBA fans for their support - 2,000 of them could be heading to Cardiff.

“I’ll repay the club and fans by bringing the British title back to the Hawthorns,” he said.

“I am very confident I have the tools to beat Sheedy and I have trained very hard.

“I have probably sparred over 100 rounds, run over 100 miles, lifted thousands of kilos in weights, been up at the crack of dawn on the race track countless times and spent well over 175 hours in the gym.”

Sheedy, 28, who has a single blotch on his 18-fight career, is confident of bringing the belt back to Hillsborough.

He says that if he hits Langford as hard as he did his last opponent, Andrew Robinson, he’ll KO him.

“I’m here to drop a few bombs” he posted on twitter. “He ain’t taking the shots I hit Robinson with. I hit Langford like that, he’s OUT.”
