Boxing trainer Glyn Rhodes is having a celebration at the Cutlers Hall in Sheffield to raise money for the city’s Children’s Hospital after being made an MBE.

The former professional fighter has organised the event on Saturday, March 9.

Glyn, who runs Sheffield Boxing Centre, Hillsborough, said: “It’s still not sunk in that I have been appointed an MBE, but the gym is not just about me – there are a lot of other people who are the backbone of it.

“I wanted to hold an event to recognise them.

“Hopefully there will be a lot of boxing people there on the night.”

Glyn, who is due to receive his MBE medal in June, said: “Tickets are £50 for a three-course meal, from 6.30pm, with entertainment including a comedian. It will be followed by a disco from 8.30pm and anyone wanting to come along to that is asked to make a £5 donation.”

Proceeds will be donated to ward three at the children’s hospital, which provides child trauma care.
