Boxing: Impressive debut tonight for Sheffield prospect Shakiel Thompson and a win for Waleed Din

A rookie boxer tipped as the next best thing from Sheffield made a memorable debut tonight.

Wincobank super middleweight Shakiel Thompson stopped Spanish based Geiboord Omier after 42 seconds on an Adam Etches-promoted show at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Norton.

The rangey Wincobank southpaw hadn't had a glove laid on him when he caught Omier in the first round.

Omier went down on one knee shook his head at referee Howard Foster and the match was over.

The visitor's trainer immediately complimented Etches on the Sheffield fighter's power and prowess.

Before that, former Commonwealth flyweight contender Waleed Din outpointed Anwar Alfadli in an unusual four rounder.

Alfadi was down in the third and Din was also given a count after being caught.

But Din, originally from Fir Vale and now training in Dubai, got the win,

Super featherweight Leo D'Erlanger, from Banbury, Oxfordshire, also beat Ivan Godor 20 61 4, from Slovakia.
