BOXING enthusiasts were pouring with sweat after pounding the punch bags to raise funds for new training equipment at their club.
Fifteen people who are regulars at Kellyanne Sharman’s boxercise classes at Manor Castle Development Trust showed they had guts when they signed up for a punishing sponsored two-hour test of their stamina.
It wasn’t for the faint-hearted...
The boxathon, held at the trust’s base in the former swimming baths on Samson Street, off Duke Street, involved a solid hour’s workout on the bags, followed by half an hour of zumba dancing, 20 minutes of stomach exercises, then 10 minutes of stretches.
Kellyanne said: “It was fantastic. We had men and women taking part and they raised a whopping £600 between them, which will be used to buy more equipment for the classes.
“The person who collected the most sponsorship – £146 – was Cheryl Hopewell, who is 41 and one of the regulars at my weekly sessions.
“It was a fantastic effort and everyone really enjoyed themselves – although they were quite tired afterwards!”
Kellyanne is appealing for new people to come along to her boxercise classes, which are held at the Samson Street centre every Thursday between 10am and 11am and are free of charge.
