Bosses issue apology after 'vulnerable' Sheffield residents left without water for 24 hours

People living in Newton Grange, Stocksbridge say they were left without running water for much of the week and had to rely on bottled water.

Now bosses at Sanctuary Housing, which owns the complex for the over 55s, has issued an apology.

One resident, who declined to be named, said: "55 apartments were left stranded without water for nearly 24 hours and there are a number of vulnerable tenants.

"We were told a contractor would come out and fix it.

“One did come and couldn’t fix the problem but told Sanctuary it was fixed.”

Yorkshire Water confirmed that the problem with a lack of water was a housing association issue and said: “Our engineers did go onsite yesterday (Sunday) and confirmed there were no issues with water surrounding the housing association.

"As a good will gesture, knowing that the residents were without water, we did provide bottled water to all the residents.”

A spokesperson for Sanctuary Housing said: “An issue with the water supply was reported to us early on Saturday afternoon.

"Our maintenance staff and specialist contractors attended immediately and worked through the weekend to resolve the problem. Bottled water was delivered to the residents for them to use while the repairs were taking place.

“We can confirm the water supply was restored on Sunday evening and we apologise to residents for any inconvenience they have been caused.”
