A community cinema in Sheffield has been given a boost just in time for Christmas.

Sharrow Reels, a monthly neighbourhood film night organised by movie fans, has been running since April 2013 in a gospel church on Sharrowvale Road.

It regularly attracts dozens of people to watch specially selected films and enjoy refreshments for the bargain price of £3.

Now organisers have won a grant from the British Film Institute Neighbourhood Cinema Fund, which means they will be able to install blackout blinds and a projector in the new year.

They say it will ‘really enhance the experience on a Sunday night’ and they are ‘delighted’.

An upgraded Blueray player and changes to the sound system are also planned.

This month’s film night at the Crowded House church will take place this Sunday, December 21.

The film is the classic Christmas movie Home Alone. The night will start at 7.30pm with the screening from 8pm.

Nether Edge firm Birdhouse Teas will be supplying a range of Christmas blends for visitors.

Entry is £3 or £2 for children.
