Boost for Sheffield as Crosspool trophy-winners join the Club

Sheffield FC have developed a unique link with Crosspool Juniors FC to help boost girls football in the area.

Crosspool will become the feeder team for Sheffield Club’s Under-14s and U16 teams.

Girls will play for Crosspool from U8-13 and then progress at U14 to the world’s oldest football club, with the potential of eventually making it into Sheffield FC’s ladies team.

Graeme Driver, who coaches Sheffield FC’s girls U14s and U16s sides, said: “Crosspool have one of the healthiest and strongest girls sections in South Yorkshire. This perfectly complements Sheffield FC’s newly-established girls squads.

Crosspool chairman Paul Wainwright, added: “Hopefully this will lead to better players moving up to the regional ladies leagues.”

Last season, Crosspool U9s enjoyed a 100 per cent winning record, winning the A Division and the Cup for the second year running.

The U10s finished fourth in the A Division, level on points with Doncaster Belles, and were the only team to beat champions Sheffield Wednesday.

The U11s finished third in the A Division behind Sheffield United and Handsworth, while the U12s won the A Division title and lost the Cup Final only on penalties.
