Bookies raid ‘not linked’

A TERRIFYING raid on a betting shop in Barnsley is not being linked to a spate of armed robberies at shops across Sheffield and Rotherham.

A man armed with a gun burst into Tote Bookmakers on Birk Avenue, Kendray, and escaped with a “substantial” amount of cash, according to police.

But detectives investigating nine raids on newsagents and grocery stores over recent weeks say they do not believe the Kendray robbery was connected.

Shops in Longley, Norton Lees, Woodhouse Mill, Meersbrook, Grenoside, and Treeton in Rotherham, have all been raided between November last year and the end of last month.
