AN ANNUAL service in memory of the crew of the Flying Fortress Mi Amigo which crashed in Sheffield’s Endcliffe Park in 1944 will be held this Sunday.
The service at 2pm will be held in St Augustine’s Church on Brocco Bank, preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial site in the park at 1.15pm.
The events will be attended by the Lord Mayor, the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, the High Sheriff, the base commander from RAF Menwith Hill, and personnel from the USAAF.
Members of the public are welcome at both events, which are being organised by the Sheffield branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.
Mi Amigo crashed on February 22, 1944 after being hit during a raid on a heavily defended Luftwaffe airfield in northern Denmark.
